It’s finally here – salad season is upon us! I can’t wait to make the first batch of Morzo Orzo for the year! Do you have a favorite salad recipe for this time of the year?

Hayley and I are about to hit the road again, this time we’re headed to NYC for a trunk show at Annie’s! We would be delighted to meet any and all that can make it out to see us! We have started the slow pack, and we’re bringing along some fabulous new colorways (Empire, High Line, Succulent, Endless Summer, Bingo, Bada Bing to name a few), plus, some old favorites. Now, the eternal question – what knitting and shoes to bring?

Black River Blanket Shawl. This is my kind of knit! Miles and miles of stockinette because sometimes you just want to cast-on and go! It’s all I can do to stop myself from binge knitting another… gray perhaps?

Happy Friday one and all! Hayley and I have returned from our adventures across the pond, and what an adventure it was…full of inspiration (castles, lochs and plaid, oh my!), visits with fiber friends old and new, and a fantastic class with Justyna…Eastern uncrossed knitting…who knew?! Our minds are still blown!

It’s time. Time let you in on a little secret. The last couple of months I have been sleeping on a silk pillow case, and I’m here to tell you…it’s a game changer! I admit, I was skeptical…could it really be that great? Yes!! It’s made a huge difference in the bed head (really helps with the frizz factor on my curly hair) situation, not to mention how fantastic my face feels! I also use this one (different price point and works very well). And, I almost forgot. They stay cool. Don’t you just love a cool pillow case?!

After what feels like a decades long search, I have found the perfect (for me) Spring travel coat. Great price point. Packs lightly. Fits over everything. Repels rain. This coat definitely checks all the boxes. I think you will love it!

My travel knitting for this trip was
Barlow, and I cannot recommend this pattern highly enough! Great texture and fun stripes keep the knitting interesting, while at the same time being easy as steak pie and hobnobs for TV or conversation knitting. And it flew off the needles!

Hi, sweets! Guess what?! XO is back, yay! We’ve got some fun things to share this week, so let’s get this show on the road!

Fact: I’m a klutz. Always.have.been. I’ve fallen down my stairs (as recently as Wednesday as a matter of fact. As I type my wrist is bruised and bumpy and my left bum, well, you get the idea), my friends’ stairs, my other friends’ stairs, stairs at the local bank, Walgreens parking lot, here at the barn ….I could go on (and on). Imagine my delight when I stumbled (ha!) across this gem of an article!

70’s food.
Ok, probably not the finest hour in our culinary history, but reading this article took me right back to my grandmother’s kitchen table. Braunschweiger Balls, anyone? Anyone? Yeah, I think I’ll pass, too!

Hayley, Elmer T, and I recently road tripped it across Tennessee from Nashville to Memphis. Our journey brought us fantastic biscuits (and other culinary treats), great music and museums, and a little shopping here and there. Enter, the denim shacket. How did I not know that this was completely missing from my life?!

I have big plans this weekend, and they pretty much involve me and Corner Brook. I cast on with abandon the other day while my other WIP’s (my sweater and one lone hat band) stared at me from the corner, and I haven’t looked back!

Winter has finally decided it’s ready to come to town, and what an entrance it’s making!! Here’s hoping your weekend plans include a healthy dose of knitting and watching the snow fly!

It’s happened to all of us…our favorite pair of jeans are broken in perfectly, and then it happens. You know, when a very well meaning member of the family beats you to the washer and puts them in the dryer…nooooo!! This article is a lifesaver!

It’s no secret that I’ve professed my love and adoration for these muffins. They.are.so.good. That is of course, if by good you mean pretty much amazing. We thought it would be fun to put a seasonal twist on them and Cranberry Clementine Muffins were born.

It’s here…that time of year when it’s you vs. the elements. Sometimes a big clunky boot is just a bit too much. These boots are an all around great everyday boot! I love that they have a somewhat hidden side zipper for easy on/off. No muss to fuss with the laces. Plus, they keep your feet nice and dry and are super cute with hand knit socks, too!

We are so excited about the two latest Plucky Knitter designs. They are fun, easy to knit and oh so fetching! Bunny Hill (a club exclusive!) and Season Pass are our gift to you with the purchase of a seven skein kit at the Snug As A Bug update, coming this Sunday!

Hello, sweets! We’ve found ourselves at the end of another week with an entire weekend ahead of us. So, let’s get started, shall we?

Whether I’m in need of entertainment, inspiration (knitting, cooking, baking and otherwise), distraction or a daily dose of cuteness, these IG feeds never disappoint!

Are Hayley and I the only ones whose lips never stop peeling, cracking or splitting starting now thru oh, about April?  We’ve decided to conduct a test. Which one will FINALLY make it stop?! Do you guys have a favorite for this time of year?

It’s December, and that means it’s almost time for new calendars! I know, I know; these days most people keep track of their schedules on their phones, computers or tablets. I can’t help it. I just love the real deal! Rifle Paper Co. is always a favorite and Snow & Graham has some super cute options, too! And this one from School House Electric is going to hang right over my desk in 2017.

Same story, different day. I want to cast on all.of.the.things! I’m especially all about the instant gratification of Aran and Bulky weight knits this time of year. A hat in a day or a shawl in a weekend? Yes, please!  Decemberist and I have a date this weekend! Groovy and Spiffy held double in Fuzzy Slippers.

How great is it when hump day is at the end of the work week? I hope everyone has the most fantastic long weekend filled with knitting, food, family and friends!

You guys. YOU GUYS! These are so good! A chip/cookie hybrid?! Yes please! I would have taken a photo of the dark chocolate and the chocolate chip (oh! and the cinnamon sugar… which would make a great pie crust. However, I digress…) but they were gone in a flash when I brought them to the barn to share. Sharing is a must, FYI.

I wore out another hairdryer, which seems to be the story of my life. Instead of buying another full sized one I decided to try this little guy. It’s fantastic! It has plenty of oomph for everyday use, all the while being compact enough to not take up too much space when you’re on the go.

I’ve made no secret of how deep my love for baked goods runs (as long as there are no bananas in the picture, I’m in!). When we have company in town, it’s lovely to have something delicious in the oven while we chat over coffee and these Cranberry orange scones are great! I’m thinking this is worth a try too!

A few weeks ago I cast on for Hudson. I may or may not have been bitten with the cast-on all the things bug since then. I’m happy to report that I picked it back up over the weekend and it’s a fantastic knit!

Is anyone else completely puzzled by this mild weather?? I certainly don’t want to look a gift horse in the mouth, but this is really bizarre! A few nights ago I was clicking through the internet, and I stumbled upon a prediction that this was going to be a year with another polar vortex. It feels as though this winter will be arriving as a wolf dressed in sheep’s clothing!

tips-arrow-recipes-use

The weather forecast for this weekend in our neck of the woods is finally calling for some cold, rainy and blustery weather. This is my kind of Fall Saturday…a Classic movie on the tele, a fire in the woodstove, pups on my lap, of course some knitting and something hearty and delicious slowly bubbling away in the oven. Enter, Guinness Beef. It’s one of Bob’s absolute favorites!

I’m a list maker, so that means I LOVE pens and I’m a big believer that all pens are not created equal so I loved this article . There are a few on here that have caught my eye that will need to be tested, but for now, I thought I’d share my go-to everyday pen.

Hayley and I are big cc cream fans and we have both been using this one for years. It’s fantastic for everyday, but sometimes a gal just needs a bit more coverage. We tried these, and they’re great! You can add them to your favorite moisturizer or cc cream and the coverage level is completely up to you! Simply add as many drops as you choose.

whitespace-1inchIs anybody else walking on tip toes, knowing that this fairly mild November weather we are having just can’t last forever? We are getting to that time of year when you jump out of bed in the morning to see if it snowed while you were sleeping! If it did, in fact, snow while you were sleeping you might need a little extra time to shovel off your car! How about a quick…breakfast cookie?!

tips-arrow-recipes-use

I’ll bet I am not the only person who thinks cookies, or any form of baked goods, are a good breakfast option! Here’s a recipe that caught my eye (and my sweet tooth). Baking has always brought me pleasure, and I think I’m going to have to give this a try this weekend. Do you have a favorite cookie that can double as a breakfast cookie? If so, I’d love to hear about it!

These are MUST have socks and I’ve been wearing Bob’s for over a year.  LOL.  They are the perfect “no show sock”, whether you’re wearing ankle boots or your favorite pair of tennies.  AND, they positively stay up on your foot!  The wool properties help with wicking, making them perfect in all sorts of weather.

tips-arrow-home-usewhitespace-1inchI’ve been knee deep in a few ‘fixer upper’ things going on at my house. Of course, paint plays a big part! The other day, a friend shared a very interesting article about paint colors. This really hit home for me, as we had been sorting through paint choices during our recent remodel project. If you’re like me, you have experienced the disappointment of picking a color in the paint store, only to find that once you apply it at home, it just doesn’t look like it did in the store. Well, here’s why that happens!

This “frameless frame” is perfect to put on a fireplace mantel, book shelf, desk, you name it, because it fits nicely just about anywhere. So classic and versatile…and also very good quality. It’s a great gift idea, too! I must confess I bought the circle version “from me, to me” as a little gift for myself.

With a quick perusal of pinterest/IG/food blogs, there is no end to pointers on building the perfect cheese and charcuterie board. We all know that texture and color are some of the fundamentals of knitting, but they are just as important in food! Below are a few pics of what we enjoyed at dinner at Elmer T’s last weekend.

A very happy Friday to you all and welcome to our new blog series!  If you’re like me, throughout the week you read or come across all kinds of interesting things, but we all have a bit more time on the weekends for leisurely reading.  So, I thought it might be fun to compile these bits of this and that and share them with you!  I hope that in some small way you’ll find them interesting, useful, and even worth a laugh or two. So, here goes…

tips-arrow-travel

Who knew?! Conde Nast Traveler recently had an article entitled Should You Wear Makeup on a Plane? I love gray but I sure do not want ‘gray-colored’ skin! It’s made me think twice about wearing makeup when flying, and I loved the various tips for what “not to do” and what “to do”, including the recommendation to travel in gray cashmere. Now that’s right up my alley!

And speaking of makeup, let me share a recommendation based on a personal experience of mine. During the photo shoot for the Plucky Field Trip Collection, I was constantly experiencing smudged eye liner (ugh…there was more on my camera than on my right eye lid.). Serious raccoon look going on which made for very interesting angles when I needed to be in some of the photos. Let’s just say ‘it’s all about the angles’ had more to do with eyeliner than anything else.

sarahphotographer-hayleyinfield-p8215367-web

The answer? Marc Jacobs HIGHLINER Gel Eye Crayon that does not (repeat, does not) smudge. Plus, it comes in so many great colors and has a secret built in sharpener!

A good night’s sleep. That’s exciting stuff and can be hard to come by! I discovered a non-down alternative, hypoallergenic pillow that I can’t live without! It keeps its shape, is actually comfortable (and can be adjusted to your liking!), helps with neck pain, and stays cool.

Hayley and I are headed to Dad’s (Elmer T’s!) for dinner this weekend, and we’ll be treating him to a recipe from one of our favorite chefs, Ina Garten. This recipe is in pretty heavy rotation around here. Are you making/baking/cooking anything fun this weekend? Oh and Ina has a brand new cookbook that will be making it’s way into our cooking libraries – Cooking For Jeffrey!

Nearing the end of my Compass Shawl which has me thinking ahead… And more often than not, especially this time of year, my go to project of choice is a hat. You know… when in doubt, knit a hat! It’s prime hat weather after all. A couple I’ve been eyeing recently are Wildflowers Cap by Mary Jane Mucklestone and Extra Slouch Hat by Jane Richmond (thinking Groovy!).
