Update: Crazy Eights!

Hi guys! Thank you Thank you Thank you for playing along with Crazy Eights today. We had high hopes of being able to keep this up for the duration but it’s just not going to be possible. However, by really narrowing the focus of the update and scraping the bottom of the barrel so to speak, we were able to eek out a little extra to try something new and see if we could accommodate more people. Please be sure to sign up for our enewsletter, follow us on Facebook, or join our Ravelry group for details on the next update!

Our game of Crazy Eights has been so much fun! It has also been a great way for us to hear what floats your boat. Oh the things we have learned! We had over 800 responses and many of them carried multiple color votes. As we have been tabulating the entries, let me just say that we were always happy to come upon any list of multiple colors that was in alphabetical order!

Now, a word about the colors that made the top eight. We did use our dyer’s prerogative to be sure that our eight colors all played well together. So what ended up happening is we have a Scummy/Muted Team and a Brights Team. It just seemed logical to have two teams made up of four players each. You know all games need a referee, so I took the two top neutral colors and made them the umpires!

Bases – now this was a REAL tough one. Because we are trying something new and want to include as many as possible for as long as possible I have chosen the bases as follows:

Trusty
Lace
Bello Worsted
Traveler Aran (due to recent changes in how we handle TA, I am particularly happy with how Tuscadero, Bohemian, Jazz Hands, Wintry Mix, Morticia, Chocolate Crinkle and Ogre will play on TA!)
Scholar
Feet
Bello Fingering
Traveler Sport

Please note: This is a pre-order update and will ship according to our pre-order policies, volume and capacity.

Thank you so much for participating and casting your votes in the CRAZY EIGHTS thread and for joining us for today’s update!

Warmest Regards,

Crazy Eights!

crazy eights

I have a plan for something super crazy and fun for our next update.

I’m still working out the details, BUT….I could use some help in picking the colors. All I am going to reveal at the moment is that I want you all to help us choose EIGHT colors for a Crazy EIGHTS Sale.

What is your dream color? Please head on over and use the brand new CRAZY EIGHTS thread and cast your vote. On Friday afternoon Hayley and I will tabulate the votes and come up with the EIGHT winning colors. I would have set up a poll, but then I would be choosing the colorways to pick from (not that Hayley and I won’t add our two cents, you can be sure we will!).

So, use your best powers of persuasion to gather votes for your favorite. Earburn your mother/sister/daughter/son/neighbor/babysitter/boss/DH, whom ever you can convince them to vote for YOUR favorite.

The update will be at NOON on Saturday 8/30 (get it, 8th month of the year!) and run for eight hours or until inventory and production time that we have set aside for this is exhausted.

Won’t you join us for a game of Crazy Eights!

Plucktember is almost here!

Plucktember2014-LOGO-grunge

One quick glance into the Plucky group on Ravelry and you are guaranteed to catch some Plucktember Fever!

Rose and Ien have been working tirelessly to get all the threads started, the guidelines set, and to answer innumerable questions from all the super enthusiastic participants. We hope that means you! If not, won’t you join us? Plucktember is a month long celebration of you, of your crafty accomplishments and, well, all things Plucky! Good times with good knits and crocheting and good friends. The theme for this year’s event is Head To Toe, shortened to H2T.

Once the word got out, the most fabulous collection of designers jumped on board and began designing new patterns and posting fantastic discounts for many of their self published works. If you haven’t had a look, be sure to check out the Plucktember Designer/Retailer thread. This is a thread that is continuing to update as more and more generous offers are posted by an incredible roster of designers. This might be your chance to pick up one of those patterns that you NEED to have in your library for future projects.

I hope you will join us this year. For a full list of the events, have a read through the locked thread, Plucktember 2014 Guide and Roadmap. Rose and Ien have laid out all the Stitch Alongs (SAL) and special challenges: “This year we will have an H2T Specific SAL, with 6 new knitting patterns designed especially for Plucktember, and 4 General SAL’s (which include knitting, crocheting, and weaving). There will also be 3 Challenge Contests with specific criteria for entry, as well as weekly (P)Lucky Friday Contests where you can win randomly drawn prizes!”

Prizes? Should we have some prizes? YES! You will have to take my word for it when I say that Plucky is pulling out all the stops for Plucktember prizes. Kits, sweater quantities, swag…. we plan to knock your socks off this year!

pktote

The official start of Plucktember is just around the corner! I am thrilled to see the excitement and enthusiasm by so many members. I am sending virtual hugs to Rose and Ien for all they have done, and continue to do, as they lead and moderate Plucktember. Add to that, my heartfelt gratitude to all the generous designers who bring their talent to us all and who are playing along with us this year – we love you guys!

Have you swatched? Do you have your pattern selected? Do you know which event (or events!) you are participating in? Plucktember, 2014 is almost here!

Update: Aeris

Thank you so much for joining us for Aeris tonight. We are sold out for the time being. Please sign up for our enewsletter, follow us on Facebook, or join our Ravelry group for details on the next update!

Aeris Collage use
I’M SO EXCITED!

Although my days are filled with dyeing and all the other parts of running a business and keeping it plucky, most evenings I try to carve out a little personal knitting time. Because knitting is such a great love of mine and is just good for the soul, I am always on the lookout for a project that will move along at a nice pace (comfort knitting if you will), but still allow the part of my brain that LOVES color and texture to just have fun!

TheYarniad – a.k.a. Hilary Smith Callis – has brought me hours of pure happy knitting! She has designed a gorgeous, slightly asymmetrical triangular wrap that offers endless possibilities. The Aeris Shawl can be knit in a choice of bases, in a single color (in Sticky Toffee on Bello worsted as shown by Hilary) or with the addition of zingy contrasting stripes. I already know that one Aeris is not going to be enough for me! I really want a solid color version too. The Aeris possibilities are endless and in addition to Bellow Worsted, I think it begs to be knit up in Scholar or Cozy as well.

I am so excited to have the opportunity to share the Aeris Shawl with you. We will offer it as an exclusive Plucky kit, in either Bello Worsted, Cozy or Scholar, with the option of ordering a single color kit or and because you may want to add some stripes, we will be posting several stripe sets (choose your solid color option and then choose the stripe set of your choice to accent your solid color set). I’m confident you will enjoy this knit as much as I did!

Aeris is available as a solid color 2 skein or a solid color 3 skein kit, which you can choose below. You will need the solid two skein option to knit Hilary’s solid Bello Worsted version, or the three skein option to knit my larger version. And, just for fun, Hayley and I have assembled a few single color skein sets (one skein each of 6 colors) should you want to add some stripey fun to your Aeris.

The Colorways

Stripe Kit Colorways

The pattern as written calls for two skeins of Bello Worsted. If you would like to do the larger size, as shown in the striped version, we’ve offered a three skein set for you, too. If you would like to do the stripes, you will need to choose your main color option of two or three skeins and then choose one of the striping kits we’ve put together as well (you will add both items to your cart).

Aeris Shawl kits will ship the week of September 8th, 2014 for your planning purposes.

Thank you so much and happy knitting!

Update: Just the Greys Yarn Club

Thank you so much for joining us tonight. We are sold out for the time being. Please sign up for our enewsletter, follow us on Facebook, or join our Ravelry group for details on the next update!

PluckyGrey2014-LOGO

It’s time for the next round of Plucky Grey!  Or Gray.  Whichever suits your fancy.  I love it regardless of how it is spelled.  Just in case you were not a part of the previous installments or would simply like to know why the Grey/Gray club exists, here is my take on why one can never have enough gray/grey options:

“I don’t just love faded hoodie sweatshirt gray.  Or graphite grey.  Or the sleek grey of a chrome bumper on an extraordinary automobile.  I love the smart look of a grey flannel blazer. I love the colors in the sky just before it starts to snow.  Weathered cedar siding calls me to come inside and sit by the fire. I love the grey that hides beneath the surface of so many other colors, giving them stability and depth.  When I think of grey, there is barely a color in the spectrum that can’t partner with grey. I love all the personalities and diverse incarnations, be they warm or cool.

So, when thinking of the Gray Club, don’t limit your imagination to that favorite faded hoodie.  Open your mind to the glory of grey!  There is no telling which road the Plucky Grey Club will head down.

Yes, I spelled grey/gray both ways in this post because Plucky grey/gray is a free spirit that refuses to be pinned down.”

This edition is going to be a party! A reunion of sorts of past favorites of the grey club and of course, a new mystery gray.

A few more important details you need to know:

Just the Grey’s installments will be offered as one-time pre-orders.  Your order is for a one time shipment and is not a part of a re-occurring subscription.  The colorway is a surprise (well, you know it will be grey…or gray!) and is the same across all bases.  Please note: July’s Gray Club orders will ship the first week of September, 2014.

Thank you so much and we hope you enjoy this latest edition!

New Colorways

Cobbler.jpg

Cobbler – who doesn’t love the smell of a warm blueberry cobbler, bubbling away in the over? Here is a soft blue grey green that is finished with a delicate wash of blueberry. You know how blueberries get ‘that look’? Here is the plucky yarn interpretation.

V.S.O.P.jpg

VSOP – Sometimes, we just need to warm ourselves from the inside out. Sipping on a snifter of V.S.O.P. brandy will do the trick – Ryan swears by it! Now, you can warm yourself from the outside in with this rich (but subtle) golden/red/brown brandy color.

Attaché.jpg

Attache – This promises to become a go-to burgundy/brown, rich and ready for fall. Now I just want boots to match!!

Letterhead.jpg

Letterhead – Another player in the Plucky “Neutrals” group, this is a little burgundy, little bit mid tone brown leaning grey, or is it a grey leaning brown? Letterhead is perfect as a stand alone and will play beautifully when paired with others. Clear as mud. I know! But, hey that’s part of the charm.

Soft As An Easy Chair.jpg

Soft As An Easy Chair – This is a deep, rich, green with a wash of deep navy to give it great depth and substance. It is a green that promises to be flattering on a multitude of individual skin tones and hair colors.

Goin Steady.jpg

Goin’ Steady – It’s redder than Hotsy Totsy and pinker than Mani-Pedi. This is a very big and incredibly rich and juicy raspberry. It is bold enough to be a show stopper if you make it the main color in your next sweater, or the perfect bit of totally unexpected pop when used as a single stripe in something a bit more understated.

Club Chair.jpg

Club Chair – This is a great new plucky brown. A bit more middle of the road brown shall we say. Not as warm as Rye or Chocolate Crinkle but not as cool as, say, Sock Monkey. Just a great brown. Like a Club Chair is just a great chair! It’s not too dark, not too light, not too cool and not too warm…. but just right!

Silver Queen.jpg

Silver Queen – It’s no secret how much I love grey and here is another winner! A very neutral grey with darker grey undertones and then something just a little unexpected and elusive – a slightly warm leaning blue gray underneath it all. Silver Queen will work with just about everything!

These new colorways will be available in the next blog update. In the meantime I thought a little eye candy might be in order on this fine Summer Saturday. Have a great weekend!

It’s been a long time coming….

churchmouse logo

Way back when (February, 2008 to be exact) I met Kit and John at the Madrona Fiber Arts Festival. It was one of those moments where you see something, or someone, and you just know that you are going to click. From that day on we both knew that we would love to work together one day.

Then again in October of 2009, Kit and John were so sweet to have me to the island for a small trunk show (way before the primo days) and, again, we just knew we wanted to expand a grown into a partnership but the timing just wasn’t quite right on our end. But, now……

Churchmouse plucky collage trunk show

Curchmouse pluckyPhoto courtesy Churchmouse Yarns & Teas

NOW, I am so happy to announce and extend a huge thank you and to Churchmouse Yarns & Teas, on Bainbridge Island in Washington, as they begin to offer Plucky Primo Fingering in ten Churchmouse exclusive colors!

Please join Churchmouse at their website to see the ten exclusive Plucky colors we have put together for their inaugural Plucky offering. The supply is very limited, so you may want to hurry! Again, please note that the colorways are exclusive to Churchmouse and will not be available directly from Plucky.

Our very warmest wishes to Churchmouse. It’s great to be honorary mice – this is going to be fun!
