Ready-To-Ship: Plucktober!

Plucktober officially begins tomorrow and we’re ready to get our project planning kicked up a notch or two! Just in case you’re still wondering what to knit (or crochet) and what to knit (or crochet) with, there’s still an opportunity because we have some yarn and it’s ready to ship!!

That’s right – ready to ship! Friday, October 2, we’ll have a Ready-To-Ship Update, featuring ten gorgeous fall colors on five of our favorite Plucky bases. Whether you’re planning a single color project or are getting ready to dip your toe into colorwork, I hope you’ll find something in this update that will keep your creative juices flowing! The colorways were chosen so they will play beautifully with one another should colorwork be in your plans.

Every one of the colorways will be available on each of the following bases:

  • Primo Fingering
  • Primo Aran
  • SNUG
  • Traveler DK
  • Scholar 2.0

And just for fun, we’ll have MYSTERY options available. These will be total mysteries – you may get a base or colorway not noted above!

There’s bound to be something here for everyone! Do you need a few ideas? I love these possibilities for this line-up of bases:

Our newest release, Candy Dish, will be so cozy, autumnal, and full of texture by mixing the Primo Fingering and perhaps some other fingering/sport weights you might have in your stash.

Getting your feet wet for the first time with colorwork this Plucktober? How about the Ono Cowl with its pops of color?  It’d be perfect for showcasing Scholar 2.0. Maybe you prefer a quick knit in bulky yarn. Give the Xacobeo Hat a go in SNUG!

Speaking of hats, I can’t say enough that everyone needs a hat (or four!) in Primo Aran. It knits up quickly, has just enough “heft” to it and…well, just trust me – you need a Primo Aran hat! Lowbrow Hat and Gone Glamping are two faves!

Sweaters more your thing? I’ve been itching to get a SNUG version of this oldie, but goodie…remember Katrine Cardigan?!

And Traveler DK has been calling my name for a BlueSand Cardigan. But, Traveler DK begs to be worn up close and wrapped around your neck too, so a shawl is definitely in order! Lorelai would be so comfy and would be perfect for chilly mornings.

See, a little something for everyone! Please join us on Friday, October 2, 2015 at 12:00 p.m. EDT on the Plucky Blog.

All Ready-to-Ship and Single Skein Mystery purchases will begin to ship Wednesday, October 7. The 3-Skein Mystery purchases will begin shipping on Tuesday, October 13.

Celebrate Plucktober!

One quick glance into the Plucky group on Ravelry and you are guaranteed to catch some Plucktober Fever!

Ien and Jill have been working tirelessly to get all the threads started, the guidelines set, and to answer innumerable questions from all the super enthusiastic participants. We hope that means you! If not, won’t you join us?

Plucktober is a month long celebration of camaraderie, knitting and FUN! Good times knitting (crocheting and weaving too!) with good friends.

There is a fantastic collection of designers who have designed new patterns and have posted fantastic discounts for many of their self-published works. If you haven’t had a look, please be sure to check out the Plucktober 2015 Designer/Retailer thread. The thread is continuing to update as more and more generous offers are posted by these lovely and generous designers. This might be your chance to pick up one of those patterns that you must have in your library for future projects.

This year we have some wonderful designers that are hosting special Plucktober Designer Stich-a-longs (SALs). They are as follows:

There will also be special SALs for the above patterns and there will also be general SAL’s, where you can knit (or crochet or weave) any pattern you’d like.

Our categories this year will be:

  • Cover Your Extremities SAL – will include all accessories (except shawls). So all hats, cowls, scarves, fingerless mitts, mittens, gloves, and socks will be hosted here by zknitter and ctrip.
  • Keep Me Warm SAL – will be hosted by sandjul and jkld11 and will include all adult size garments.
  • It’s A Wrap SAL – will consist of shawls and wraps, which we know are extremely popular with Plucky knitters. LisaV2207 and kitchsstitches will host all you shawl and wrap knitters.
  • At Home With The Littles SAL – is a new SAL this year. This SAL will include baby and kids garments as well as all sorts of things for the home. Knitted antlers or crocheted chickens anyone? Stuffed animals? Blankets in all their Plucky glory will be included here also. Shortcakepie and Diana505 will be your moderators for this fun new SAL.

I hope you will join us this year. For a full list of the events, rules and how-to’s, have a read through the locked thread, Plucktober 2015 Guide and Roadmap.

Prizes? We will absolutely have some prizes! Kits, sweater quantities, swag…This is going to be great fun!

We are thrilled to present the Plucky app! This is a free app that, quite simply, is our gift to you! All you need to do is go to the Apple iTunes Store or Google Play to download it on iOS and Android phones and tablets.

We’ve designed our app with you in mind every step of the way. It will allow you to:

  • View Plucky color pairings—which we will be adding to regularly!
  • View a comprehensive list of the Plucky colorways and color families.
  • Have access to patterns which can be downloaded through your Ravelry library.
  • Experience some little surprises from us…and Ox!

Allow me to get into a little more detail:

Our new app will provide you with tools that will inspire your knitting, and a library of Plucky colors and pairings at the touch of a finger. Within the app, we will offer Plucky patterns as well as links to patterns from other wonderfully talented designers with our suggestions for yarn, base, and color pairings. Eventually, there will even be app exclusive patterns, so be sure to keep an eye out for those!

But, we wanted this app to be more than eye candy. We have spent countless hours sorting the yarn shots into color families. This means that you will have the option of clicking “green” and immediately being taken to a page that will have sorted all the greens for you. Once you see all the Plucky greens you can select your favorite colorway, then click “See Pairings”, and voila!

As mentioned a bit earlier, our Plucky app will also be filled to the brim with fun. And, Ox will have a lot to say! He will offer reminders of upcoming events, make announcements, and throw in his two cents every once in a while. Ox will even have his own occasional Mystery Matches. We’re never quite sure what he has up his paws, so stay tuned once you download the app.

The app will also have push notifications which will alert you to an upcoming Update. If, at the last minute, I add new bases and/or colors to an update (as I have been known to do!) a push notification will be sent in plenty of time to make or adjust your planning!

I do want to emphasize that the app will not replace Hayley or me being on the boards and assisting you however we can. It is our hope that the app will be an invaluable tool in helping you with your “plotting and planning” any time you choose.

We are so excited and hope you are too! Our goal was to create something for you that would take your customer experience and creativity to new heights. This free app will hopefully do just that!

We hope you will enjoy exploring the Plucky app and finding all the ways it can work for you. It has been a privilege to create this gift for you.

With my warmest wishes!

Fall Back Update

We are so excited to celebrate the launch of our newest Plucky Collection with not one, but a two-part FALL BACK Blog Update!

Blog UpdateSunday, September 20th, 8:00 pm EDT
and Monday, September 21st, 9:00 am EDT

We hope our Fall Back Collection has been of inspiration to you as you browse Ravelry and arrange your queue for your fall knitting plans. If you are anything like me, you have a serious case of “cast-on-itis” for all things fall. One must be prepared, right?! We hope the collection along with the new colorways and new bases, and even kit opportunities in this two-part update will help you solidify your fall knitting plans so you’re ready to go when the cool weather hits.

You’ve already been a huge help to me in planning this update by sharing your wishes in our Wishlist Thread! I love to hear what you’re hoping for and what you need to complete that must-have project. Please be sure to keep sharing (I’ve been known to add a last minute colorway, or kit…or a few!)! You’ve spoken and this update is calling for the newest Plucky colorway additions and kits. I can’t wait to share with you the kits for Bonfire, Omena, and Peak Color!

Just a few of the colorways, including the latest additions to our Plucky line-up, are shown here, but be sure to keep an eye on our Update and Announcement thread where you’ll find the full list of color ways and kits available for the update evolve!

Kits to make a 3-color Omena in Scholar or Scholar 2.0 will be available.

Peak Color kits (2-color and 5-color options) are available in Snug Fingering, Primo Fingering, Cashmere or Bello. And, of course, a mystery option just for fun!

Thank You

Shindig Tote Close

Please bear with me a few moments while I get a bit mushy as I reflect on the Shindig. Last week – wow – that was exciting! It would seem logical that I would say it was exhausting (it certainly was, but in a good way!), but when you are doing something you love, it was also exhilarating! Hayley and I (and the Plucky crew) had the privilege of being with extraordinary people. We received in–person, as well as virtual hugs the entire weekend long. We were able to see so many people we know and love virtually, in person, and the opportunity to see your projects come to life. Your excitement at the unveiling of the Fall Back collection, trying on the sample knits, seeing the new colors and bases, swatching in bases you might not have tried, and allowing us the privilege of helping you put colors together, were beautiful beyond words. Thank you, so much, for joining us, supporting our work and for being our friends.

I would be remiss if I didn’t acknowledge a few special efforts that made the ‘Dig outstanding this year. Thank you to all who modeled their work in the fashion show. Each FO was inspired and inspiring. You guys are amazing and you owned that runway! To all of you who took the time to post photos of “Shindiggers In The Wild” (I’m looking at you Mary Kay), thank you for allowing all our Plucky friends to share in our fun. A huge thank you goes out to all the personal shoppers who generously took the time to shop and deliver yarn to others. And, about all the sugary and salty goodness, the baked goods and all other manner of treats you gave us? Let’s just say there will be extra miles logged on the treadmill for the remainder of this month! Thank you for keeping us on our toes and well fed and well hydrated! And, you guys! How do I even begin to say thank you for your incredibly kind gift and acknowledgement of 10,000 in the Plucky group!? Who knew the group was larger than the city we call home!? You made us cry, left me speechless, and truly touched our hearts. The group wouldn’t be what it is today without YOU – each and every single one of you.

Finally, there are so many behind the scenes people that I am indebted to for the months of work that goes into making a successful Shindig. Lorilee, who along with her hand picked crew, makes everything look so easy and manages it all so gracefully – L, thank you! We are so grateful to our teachers and speakers, Amy Herzog, JC Briar, Michelle Wang and Lorilee Beltman for sharing their insights and knowledge, helping us all be better (and smarter!) knitters. And, it goes without saying, to all the behind the scenes crew members/family who worked tirelessly through multiple heat waves to insure that thing went off without a hitch. You are loved and appreciated so very much.

Thank you again, so much… for everything.

The above is a short clip of the Fashion Show. Good times!

Shindig After Party Instant Gratification Update!

shindig after cable

It’s time for the Shindig After Party Instant Gratification update!

As something special for all of our Plucky Friends (and especially for those who weren’t able to join us at the recent Plucky Shindig) we are happy to announce an After Party IG update that will be full of creative and fun possibilities for your cool weather knitting (winter IS coming!). Many bases and colors will be available just perfect for jumping right into Plucktober or your favorite Fall Back pattern.

I can’t even begin to tell you how excited we are to begin to see new WIPs and FOs from the Fall Back collection pop up in the threads. What a thrill! If you’re looking for a few shopping ideas, Jill(aka Knitterella) is hosting an Omena KAL in the Ravelry group for this sure-to-be-a-wardrobe-staple vest!  Or how about Michele Wang’s Quadri hat for that single skein of SNUG Worsted to ease you into building your cool weather wardrobe? And we can’t forget about the plethora of options that many amazing designers and Plucky friends are offering in the Plucktober 2015 Designer/Retailer thread.  Oh, if I remember correctly, we definitely had a few skeins of cashmere left from the Shindig and while packing, I couldn’t help but think of the possibilities for a few pairs of Burning Leaves or a Freeze Warning by Amy Miller.

peak color 2 color

It’s not truly a Plucky After Party without those mystery kits! I’m thinking Peak Color mystery kits (five color and two color kits of assorted fingering weights – #mixthosebases!!!) would be a fun addition to the update as well as 3 and 6 skein tasting menus and our other mystery offerings.

The After Party IG update will be Friday morning, September 18th at 9:00 am EDT and, because I would hate for anyone to miss out on the party, again at 8:00 pm EDT Friday evening in the Plucky ETSY Shop.  And please join us in the update chatter thread in the Plucky group on Ravelry on Friday morning (and again Friday evening) where we will be chatting away!

Shipping will begin on Tuesday, September 22nd. Please remember that it takes a little extra time to get the IG orders all out the door. Those mystery kits take us a while – we love to match them up to you as well as we possibly can – all the while trying to add in something unexpected (so fun!).

It’s Almost Time To Fall Back

Barn Fall back

I’m so excited to announce that tomorrow morning, September 10th, we are going live with our third collection, FALL BACK. We have gathered together a wonderfully fun selection of all things transitional, taking you from early fall weather into deep winter. Now is the time to turn our thoughts and our needles to the changing season.

In Fall Back you’ll find sweaters that are perfect for this time of the year when you need something cozy to ward off the chill in the air. Of course there will be hats, scarves and cowls a plenty! Oh, and some fun ways to show your team spirit at the football game or to support your alma mater. You’ll find some eye-popping color work, of course, and marvelously decadent shawls.

We invite you to take your time and explore the entire collection. Whether you’re looking for quick fingerless mitts or a project that will help you expand your knitting repertoire, we hope you find it in the new Fall Back collection.

Scholar & Oxford – 2.0

scholar 2.0 text

Remember how I mentioned the other day the exciting things I’ve been hiding up my sleeve, and the tweaking and fine-tuning that has been happening lately? I’m so excited to finally be able to share one of them with you!

Plucky Scholar and Oxford have become two of my absolute favorites since their initial debut. These two have broadened my knitting horizons with their woolen spun properties and I can’t imagine the Plucky catalog of bases without them! I love their “weekend in the country” luxury and just can’t say enough of how I love their talents in color work. I even love how uniquely different they take dye than any of our other bases. That being said, I wanted to see if I couldn’t take these guys to the next level and expand our color palette horizons!

We’re excited to announce a new version of Scholar and Oxford that will enhance how these two woolen spun bases take the dye. This new method is going to help us process these two with much more intense, clear (think less “heathered”) saturation of color and dare I say, produce an even softer yarn. The colorways will positively sing and make your colorwork truly pop! Everything we already love about these bases will remain the same, we’ll have richer color and softer yarn. Win-win don’t you think?!

The Scholar 2.0 and Oxford 2.0 will make their live and in person debut at the Shindig. Don’t worry though, we’ll be sure to have it available at a “post-Shindig” celebration update for all our friends who may not be able to join us in person. And to be sure stash-diving, sorting and matching for a project isn’t an issue, the new yarn labels are clearly marked as “Scholar (or Oxford) 2.0”. The colorway may be the same, but there will be a distinct difference between the OLD and the NEW Scholar and Oxford. Both wonderful but very different.

We hope you really like and are as pleased with the changes as we are. While it’s always exciting to discover and develop brand new Plucky products, I’ll never stop striving to be certain that everything on the Plucky menu is the absolute best we can bring to you!

Just to be clear…. Scholar and Oxford 2.0 are absolutely NOT taking the place of the original. We will still have the Scholar and Ox you know and love but are introducing 2.0 to expand our options!
