It’s A Wrap! Plucktober 2015

And, just like that, we have knit, crocheted and woven our way through the entire month of Plucktober! Thirty-one days in which we pushed ourselves toward the finish line. I hope you enjoyed every bit of it! Now that we find ourselves sitting in November (almost the end no less!), it’s time to applaud each other for all our efforts.

Personally, I would like to thank Ien and Jill for the hundreds of hours they logged organizing and administering Plucktober. They assembled an awesome group of moderators who were on top of their groups, literally 24/7! You were terrific leaders, cheerleaders and hand holders.

I hope you had fun. Whether you finished every task you set for yourself on Plucktober 1st or not, it has been great fun knitting with you all! Thank you!

Check out the photos below. Just some of the Plucktober FOs that we loved! (1) Quadri knit by SariMor, (2) Storm Door knit by knitterj, (3) Arlo knit by melissah3, (4) Red Haven Delberts knit by pookiebb, (5) Spring Fever knit by blythe11111, (6) Hayride knit by jarmeblue, (7) Outback knit by CatReading, (8) Potawatomi knit by NicandNatsMom (9) Lerwick Roofline knit by Knitterella.

PLUCKY PICKS: Brooklyn Candle Studio

The cozy glow of candlelight is a must in the chilly November and December days and evenings. I’m so enjoying the Autumn Amber collection from Brooklyn Candle Studio, known for their lovely small batch candles. Ahhh…can’t get enough of the Spiked Apple Cider and, of course, my old favorite Fern & Moss!

Brooklyn Candle Studio has generously offered a discount to all Plucky Knitters!  They are so kind and I’m very excited to share these with you! Use code PLUCKY at during checkout and get 15% off your entire order. The coupon code is only applicable at the online shop noted and not in their Etsy store.

Please note: This is not a paid endorsement, just a favorite find.

  • Thursday, Nov. 19th, at Noon EST

Below are the colors that will be offered.

Warm & Fuzzy Update!

Here in Michigan, most of us have been experiencing lots of “not-too-cold-yet” or “what-month-is-it-really” days. But, we know it’s coming – all that weather. We are quickly approaching the days and nights when all we want to do is sit inside and knit, surrounded by our yarn and a healthy list of upcoming projects. It’s time to prepare! Are you ready for some winter knitting? Something quick? Something soothing? Here are a few that I’ve knit, am in the process of knitting and/or wish I had done right this minute!

Ballydesmond by Irish Girlie Knits. Stunning aren’t they? These cabled, fingerless gloves work up faster than you’d think in Snug Worsted. Or, how about a pretty heathered pair in original Scholar? How lovely!

Have you seen the Fogbelt wrap by Cassie Munksgard? I can think of a million places to wear this oversized and adorable wrap! This would look stunning in your favorite 2-color combo of Snug or Bulky. Or even use up your Snug scraps and make it a multi-colored piece. Now that sounds like fun!

Another great and quick project would be the Xacobeo Hat by Trelly Hernández. Hayley and I love ours and over a year later I’m still wearing mine all the time. A super quick and super fun project in SNUG!

And the current favorite on my needles is Bradway by Shannon Cook. I love this thing! I’m using a mixture of Scholar and Scholar 2.0 but it’s great for any Plucky worsted bases.

Below are just a few of the colors available for this coming update…

* Please Note: Brume is quite the color-shifter! The color can have some pretty
dramatic changes on different bases. It’s a gorgeous color, but a stinker!

Every one of the colorways will be available on each of the following bases:

  • Bello Worsted
  • Bulky
  • Cachet
  • Cashmere
  • Feet
  • Oxford 2.0
  • Primo Fingering
  • Primo Sport
  • Primo Worsted
  • Scholar
  • Scholar 2.0
  • Single
  • Snug
  • Snug Fingering
  • Snug Worsted
  • Traveler DK
  • Traveler Sport

This will be the last pre-order update that will ship by the end of 2015. Those of you who live fairly close to us may receive your order by December 24th, but we all know how wonky shipping delivery times can be at that time of year!  Please factor the possibility of delayed delivery times into your plan.

What’s on your wish list? Please help us to compile a lovely menu of colors and bases for this (and every) update. Your input in the wish list thread is extremely helpful! We carefully watch this thread and every post and every “agree” is counted as a vote. And, just to get things rolling, many of the colors featured in the last update as part of the gradient kits will be repeated in this update! If you haven’t already done so, this is a great time to download the Plucky Knitter app. The app is where you will find a huge collection of photos of Plucky colors, listed by name and by family, as well as colors that Hayley and I find work particularly well with all our favorites.

Please join us for this three-part Free Shipping Update!

  • Thursday, Nov. 19th, at Noon EST
  • Friday, Nov. 20th, at 8:00 PM EST
  • Sunday Nov. 22nd, at 8:00 PM EST
*That’s right! This Update will include FREE SHIPPING! If your order is domestic, it will ship for free. International transactions of 2 or more skeins within the same transaction will also ship for free. Unfortunately, at this time we will not be able to combine multiple international orders for free shipping. Any single skein international transactions will include shipping costs.
If you are new to Plucky we invite you to read all about our Blog Updates in the FAQs found HERE. Also, be sure to sign up for our eNewsletter and go to our Plucky Knitter app so you are always up-to-date on events and news.

It’s time for a Ready-To-Ship!

It’s that time of year when we start thinking about what we need to accomplish before the year is officially done – it always seems to creep up so quickly!  Maybe you’ve promised yourself you’d knit your first sweater in 2015.  Or, perhaps you promised all of the admirers of your talents a new hat before snow flies.  Well, no need to worry, we have you covered!  We have what you need and it’ll get to you in time so you can finish your goals and follow-through on those gifts (yes, even the ones for you!) you’ve promised.  We have yarn for you and it’s ready to ship!!

That’s right – ready to ship! Friday, November 13, we’ll have a Ready-To-Ship Update, featuring 10 gorgeous colors on 10 of our favorite Plucky bases. Whether you’re planning a single color project (that first sweater you promised yourself) or are getting ready to cast on a myriad of hats for friends and family, I hope you’ll find something in this update that will keep you on track through the end of the year! The colorways were chosen so they will play beautifully with one another should colorwork be in your plans, too.

Every one of the colorways will be available on each of the following bases:

  • Primo Fingering
  • Sophisticate
  • Bellow Worsted
  • SNUG Worsted
  • Oxford 2.0
  • Scholar 2.0
  • Cashmere
  • Cachet
  • Traveler
  • Traveler Aran

* Please Note: Brume is quite the color-shifter! As you can see from the image above, the color has some pretty dramatic change on different bases. A gorgeous color, but a stinker!

And just for fun, we’ll have MYSTERY options available. These will be total mysteries – you may get a base or colorway not noted above!

We’ll also have an option for Mystery Marled Hat Kits.  These are so much fun and we love putting together options for you!  Marled Hat is a free Plucky pattern and a quick knit so you can be sure all of those noggins are covered in style!

There’s bound to be something here for everyone!  We hope you will join us on Friday, November 13, 2015 at Noon EST at the Plucky Blog.

**An important note!:  Since all of the yarn available in Friday’s update (and all other subsequent RTS or IG updates) has been carefully inventoried, dyed, and is ready to be shipped the following Monday, we will no longer be able to accommodate requests for cancellations or changes of orders.  Please be absolutely certain that you fully intend to purchase and receive any yarn you check-out with from the update.  It is administratively very difficult and impedes shipping times to allow for these changes.  Thank you for your understanding!

Plucky Classics, A Yarn Club

It is that time again! Time to enroll in Plucky Classics!

Sign-ups begin Wednesday, November 11 at 9:00 a.m. EST on the Plucky Blog
We are super excited to open up the Plucky Classics subscription program for another round. We want to give everyone a chance to sign-up for something new, add to their existing subscription, or give the Classics program a whirl for the very first time!

For those who aren’t really sure why we call it Classics, let me give you a little background. Hayley and I love old movies. The Classics. Or, at least those that we consider to be classics! Our idea of a perfect evening is to slip an old movie into the DVD player, make some popcorn, sit back with our knitting and lose ourselves in a movie. But, it’s not just the oldies that we consider Classics. Who doesn’t love a cheezy 80’s or a 90’s disaster movie?  Our tastes are eclectic, to say the least.  And, it’s from our personal list of classic movies that we draw our inspiration for the Classics subscription colors. Won’t you watch and knit with us?

Here is how the Plucky Classics subscription works:

If you are already a Classics subscriber, and you don’t want to change a thing with your current selection, you are golden and don’t need to do a thing! Your subscription will continue on in the same manner.

  • Sign-ups go live Wednesday, November 11, 2015 at 9:00 a.m. EST on the Plucky Blog and will remain open as long as spots remain available.
  • Upon enrollment (the date you subscribe, beginning Wednesday, November 11), you will have the payment for your yarn deducted from your Paypal account. Subsequent payments will continue to be deducted, on the same date every other month, until you cancel your subscription.
  • At the end of every month following the deduction (December), your Classics order will be shipped to you. You will continue to receive yarn, every other month, until you cancel your subscription (February, April, June and so on).
  • The base and quantity you choose will be your subscription until you (or we) cancel your subscription.
  • Bases available are: Primo Aran, Primo Fingering, Primo Sport, Primo Worsted, Bello, Bello Worsted, Single, Feet, Trusty, SNUG Worsted, SNUG Fingering, Sweater and Plucky Cashmere and Cachet! A quick run-down of yarn details can be found here.
  • The Classics color each month is a surprise colorway and is the same across all bases.
  • If you would like a subscription for more than one base, you will need to make an additional subscription.
  • Pricing, including shipping costs can be viewed here.  Please be sure to choose the appropriate selection (U.S. or International) based on your shipping address.

Plucky Classics is a great (and fun!) way to ensure you get a regular dose of Plucky yarn, especially if you find it difficult to make the updates (time zones, work schedules, etc.). Sign-up and yarn will magically appear in your mailbox every other month. Easy Peasy!

Please note: multiple orders will be combined for shipping, domestic and international.
Values for customs documents will be completed in accordance with the pricing shown on your PayPal receipt (i.e. One skein Primo Worsted shipped internationally will reflect a value of $33.00, etc. for customs). Again, thank you!

If you are new to Plucky we invite you to read all about our Blog Updates in the FAQs found HERE. Also, be sure to sign up for our eNewsletter and go to our Plucky Knitter app so you are always up-to-date on events and news.

One Dish Delish! WINNERS

I’m hungry! All contests are fun, but those that involve cooking are double the pleasure. Reading the recipes in the One Dish Delish thread has yielded a wealth of new ideas. Who would ever have thought of putting an entire jar of grape jelly over a pork roast? One recipe even specified that the ingredients were best when dumped into a bowl with polka dots. Who knew? I loved some of the really healthy entries. A lot of us substitute ground turkey for beef, but we also had a chili recipe that called for elk. Now, there is something that is probably not in your local grocery store!

Without further ado, I am declaring winners in several categories:

BEST MEMORIES OF CHILDHOOD goes to [K8linlight], post #125, and her Dad’s Onion Soup. Her words painted a beautiful picture of family life and security.

BEST STEW THAT I WANT TO MAKE ASAP goes to [Jeanyholt], post #173, for her Apple Cider Stew made with apple cider, veggies galore and an apple! Her instructions let you choose between slow cooking for 11-12 hours, turning the crock-pot up and cooking for 5 ½ -6 hours, or on the stovetop for 2 ½ hours.

BEST ENTRY THAT BOB IS GOING TO FLIP OVER goes to [Shewhodoestoomuch], post #59, and her French Dip Sandwiches. She has described a perfect day in Bob’s world, where he can work outside all day, take a late afternoon walk with the pups and come home to making a meal of a hearty sandwich that has been cooking all day and has lots and lots of juice for dipping.

BEST APPLE CAKE THAT I KNOW I AM GOING TO LOVE goes to [Splendorfalls], post #105, for her Cinnamon Apple Cake. She says this cake is great made the night before and served for breakfast or as a perfect end to any meal. Apples and cinnamon are perfect any time in my book.

SPECIAL AWARD FOR EXTRAORDINY EFFORTS goes to [Simopaini], post # 138, for her Lasagne Di Zucca. Not only is this a fabulous sounding dish, but Simona also took the time to translate every single word for those of us who do not speak Italian. And, she provided many links to illustrate exactly how the various ingredients should look. WOW!

Again, thanks to all who entered. I think we all win, because there were just so many fabulous ideas and inspiration from those who contributed. We invite the winners to with “Winner – One Dish Delish Contest” in the subject line so we can send you a prize!

A Multiple Choice Update!

We love gradients. We love cowls. We love choices! This update is going to feature all 3!Are you a gradient lover too? If you are, we have an exciting new design to share with you. Michele Wang’s new cowl, Wollman Rink is a perfect fit for working with gradient color schemes.  This slip-stitch colorwork cowl has quickly become a favorite of mine.  Do you have a blanket in mind but you want to add extra colors and skeins to build on a gradient you’ve already put together?  Or are you just ready to cast-on all of the new hats and gorgeous sweaters coming out for the winter season?  You can!  Here are the nuts & bolts of this update:

  • (5) color (6 skein) fingering weight kits for Michele Wang’s brand new Wollman Rink Cowl will be available.
  • (5) skein Gradient kits in fingering, sport, worsted or bulkier bases. We like options!
  • Pre-order any quantity you’d like of the available colors and bases that are in the kits. Basically, it’s a regular Blog update, too.
  • And to top it off it will be a 2-part update, at 2 different times so as to accommodate as many as possible.

We are so excited about Wollman Rink, with its color play, gorgeous texture and timeless good looks, reminiscent of the venue for which it’s named. Whether you lace up your skates and take to the ice or watch from the sidelines with a steaming mug of something hot, Wollman Rink is the perfect accessory.

To help Michele celebrate the release of her pattern and upcoming Gauge and Tension Plucky trunk show this weekend, Hayley and I have put together a collection of fingering weight kits that we think are particularly fun and promise to be ever so pretty.  Choose from gradients or play with color to create your own perfect cowl.  The pattern will be available in Michele’s Ravelry shop beginning Friday, November 6 and she’s even offering 10% off through Sunday!

And, we’ve heard your requests for more gradient kits, and we are happy to oblige!  In addition to the fingering kits, we will also have sport, worsted and bulkier (5) skein kits available.

I think it bears repeating that every color and base available in a kit is also available for pre-order in the quantity you want!  Do you need a Quadri to go with your Wollman Rink?  Pick up an extra skein of Bello Worsted or Snug Worsted, or even Scholar, and you’re good to go!

Before every update, please be sure to pop into the wishlist thread to let us know what colors and bases you are shopping for.  This is such a great starting point for us in putting together update offerings of bases, single colors, collages and gradients.  Then, we will post them in the locked update thread so you can easily scroll through to see what combos are speaking to Hayley and me!

Please join us on Friday, November 6 at 12 p.m. EST and again on Sunday, November 8 at 8 p.m. EST on the Plucky Blog for this multiple choice update!  Here’s a recap of what you will find:

Wollman Rink Cowl kits:

  • (6) skein fingering kits. Each kit will contain (2) skeins of a MC, (4) different skeins of CCs, in the same base and will be the needed yardage to knit Wollman Rink. Please note that the pattern is sold separately, in Michele’s Rav store with a 10% discount Friday, Saturday and Sunday of this weekend.

Bases available:

  • Cashmere
  • Feet
  • Oxford 2.0
  • Primo Fingering
  • Single (on back-order but available)
  • Snug Fingering

Gradient Kits

  • (5) skein gradient kits.  Each kit will contain 5 different colors, on the same base, forming a gradient for a project(s) of your choosing.

Bases available:

  • Each of the fingering bases noted above as well as
  • Bello Worsted
  • Cachet
  • COZY
  • Primo Sport
  • Scholar (original)
  • Snug Worsted

Standard Pre-Orders

  • Any of the listed colors, on any of the listed bases, in any amount you want! No need to limit yourself to one of the kits that we build; here is a chance to gather a sweater quantity of your choice, or select single colors to knit hats for the family.

This is going to be a fun one!  An important note:  This is one of the last blog updates that will ship prior to 12/23/2015.  If you’re looking for yarn to gift or gifts to knit, now’s your chance!  If you are new to Plucky we invite you to read all about our Blog Updates in the FAQs found HERE. Also, be sure to sign up for our eNewsletter and go to our Plucky Knitter app so you are always up-to-date on events and news.
