All Your Favs Update

Did you experience some wacky weather last week? Or maybe you totally dodged the weather bullet?  Regardless, we hope you were able to find some relaxing time to think, plot and plan for some deep winter knitting (or to dream about spring projects!). Maybe you’ve been searching for patterns and scrolling through the Plucky app, looking for just the right combination of texture and colors. Did your favorites list and your queue grow more than just a little bit? Speaking of favorites, thank you so much for your thread in the Ravelry group noting your top Plucky favorites! We’ve loved reading what old and new colorways comprise your Top 10. So much so, that this update is for you and promises to include some old and new favorite Plucky colorways of all time

In case you haven’t quite decided what to cast on next, may we offer some of our latest favorites as possibilities for your consideration?

First up, Buccaneer. This one has quickly jumped to the top of my favorites – to knit and to wear! There are so many color combinations to be had here…And, if you haven’t considered it yet, Hayley says The Knitter’s Dude “is the most fantastic pattern!” You can check hers out in the Plucky App as an Ox Mystery Match. It’s simply beautiful and Scholar works SO well for this design. Trelly Hernandez released A Plucky Penny hat this week that would be so fun to #mixthosebases for an accessory big on color and texture!

Dude HMS

A few other favorites I don’t want you to miss: Nordic Wind (I think I need one in Snug Worsted now, too! Or maybe a mix of bases…hmm), Warm Sheep (mine is so cozy and warm), andThaliah (a perfectly relaxing yet engaging knit).

Here’s the list of bases you can expect to see so far!:

Lodge Fingering
Lodge Worsted
Primo fingering
Primo Sport
Scholar 2.0
Snug Fingering
Snug Worsted

This Update will be split into two parts. Please join us on Sunday, January 31st at 8:00 PM EST and again on Monday, February 1st  at 9:00 AM EST. We have a great list of bases and I am very happy to report that Bello and Single are back! They will all be available, as well our brand new base, Lodge, in both fingering and worsted weight. Lodge joins Crew as a perfect year round, all seasons blend!

Keep an eye on the Update chatter thread as Hayley and I put together color combos for Buccaneer and do our best to help you find the perfect color selection for you from this update. And, as we always do, we will be watching the Wishlist thread to help us round out the final colorways to be offered. The final list of colorways and bases will be posted in the locked Update News and Announcement thread.

It’s Spiffy! It’s Dandy! And It’s Ready-To-Ship!

Hello there!

And, we’re ready! After many, many months in development, we are very excited to share fournew bases with you. Three of these bases will be limited edition (sort of a test run) and the fourth is going to be more readily available. It is always a fun (and more than a little bit nerve wracking!) process that involves a whole lot of “back to the drawing board” moments between the mill and two very picky dyers/test knitters…Hayley and me! Happily, after months and months of work, we are ready to share with you four new bases that take the dye beautifully and just as importantly, create a fabric that we love! Our hope is that you will love them too.

Our first newbie of the year is Spiffy! With a blend of 60% cashmere and 40% silk, Spiffy truly lives up to its name. This sport weight yarn brings tons of texture to your stitches. Spiffy is unbelievably soft, yet the silk gives it structure and strength as well, making it a terrific choice for lacy shawls and whisper soft sweaters. It will also mix beautifully with other bases to create that truly custom fabric you have been looking for.

Dandy is a very special blend of 58% baby suri alpaca, 14% cashmere, 14% merino and 14% nylon, all blown into a hollow core. This gives it the appearance of a single ply yarn and a fabric that glows! It will give a new dimension to bulky knits, offering a bit of sheen to the normally matte look of Plucky Bulky and Plucky Snug. As cold as this week has been, I am all for a lighter than air bulky knit that has a  little extra ‘fluff’ to it. And, dare I say, it’s sort of a ‘dressy’ bulky yarn? Yes, I think I will say that!

And now, for something super fun, a little funky and, I think, really fabulous. Our third new limited edition base is Loopdeloo! I am almost at a loss for words to describe this to you. It is a 60/25/15 blend of baby suri alpaca and cashmere that is looped in and out of a silk chain! It’s a little thin, then it’s a little plump, and then it gets thin again. It’s crazy! The resulting fabric is textured and just plain fun.  I think this will make a simple pullover sweater into something special. And, for the really adventurous, how about mixing Loopdeloo with another Plucky yarn to make stripes. Now, that would be fun!

Our fourth new base is Lodge, offered in two different weights; a worsted and a fingering yarn! Lodge is a blend of 60% merino, 20% cotton, 10% linen and 10% silk, making it an easy choice for all climates. Whether it’s a bit more moderate where you live (that is definitely not Michigan at the moment!) or you enjoy four separate seasons, Lodge is perfect all year long. Personally, I’m thinking I need a new favorite sweatshirt sweater in the worsted weight, layered over a flannel shirt…and maybe a matching pair of Lodge fingering weight socks and mitts and a hat, for sure!

Please join us on Friday, January 22nd at 12:00 P.M. EST on the blog for our New Bases update!

This update will feature all of the new bases and is Ready-To-Ship! At this time, we have a limited supply of Spiffy, Dandy and Loopdeloo and have not yet decided if we will keep them in regular rotation or hold them as occasional guests. Lodge will be making more regular appearances. We have put together a list of colors that just sing on the new bases.

For The Love Of Scum

There’s nothing like a brand new CLUB to launch a brand new year!

I know it’s hard to believe, but there might be a few people out there who think we are all talking about a thin layer of pond algae when we profess our love for scum. But, no way, not us. We are talking about those warm, earthy colors that only nature could suggest. These colors are the moss that grow on the shady side of trees and the mushrooms that smell of the earth. Scummy colors happen when you take any color and bring it into the dusky afternoon of a forest, shaded from the brightest lights.

Which side of the coin best describes you? Are you like Hayley who absolutely glows when wearing colors like Fiona, Triple Crown, Joe Banks or Ogre right up against her face? Or are you more like me who needs to place a cooler buffer between your face and the scum’s? While Hayley looks terrific wearing something knit entirely in warm, earthy colors, I use those same colors as the accent to help my brighter, cooler and neutral colors pop.

Please join us on Friday morning, January 8th at 9:00 am EST and again on Sunday evening, January 10th at 8:00 pm EST, as we launch our For The Love of Scum club. We will be featuring a brand new scummy mystery color that promises to be gorgeous as a stand-alone color or paired with a multitude of other Plucky colors. In addition to the mystery color, we will include lots of your favorite scummy colors and a great selection of brights and neutrals that play beautifully with their scummy color friends. A note about the Scum club…please don’t expect just versions of greens or yellows with this club – these colors come in many varieties and hues of all sorts!

The above collage and the list of bases below is a taste of what to expect for this update, but remember; the lists aren’t finished just yet! As always, we invite you to post your wishes in our Wishlist thread and be sure to keep an eye on the Update News & Announcement thread in our Ravelry Group.  Hayley and I will be posting some of our favorite mixes and combos, all focusing on scummy colors. This is also where you will find the final listings of colors and bases that will be offered in this For The Love Of Scum club update.
