xo, Sarah

A very happy Friday to you all and welcome to our new blog series!  If you’re like me, throughout the week you read or come across all kinds of interesting things, but we all have a bit more time on the weekends for leisurely reading.  So, I thought it might be fun to compile these bits of this and that and share them with you!  I hope that in some small way you’ll find them interesting, useful, and even worth a laugh or two. So, here goes…

Who knew?! Conde Nast Traveler recently had an article entitled Should You Wear Makeup on a Plane? I love gray but I sure do not want ‘gray-colored’ skin! It’s made me think twice about wearing makeup when flying, and I loved the various tips for what “not to do” and what “to do”, including the recommendation to travel in gray cashmere. Now that’s right up my alley!

And speaking of makeup, let me share a recommendation based on a personal experience of mine. During the photo shoot for the Plucky Field Trip Collection, I was constantly experiencing smudged eye liner (ugh…there was more on my camera than on my right eye lid.). Serious raccoon look going on which made for very interesting angles when I needed to be in some of the photos. Let’s just say ‘it’s all about the angles’ had more to do with eyeliner than anything else.

The answer? Marc Jacobs HIGHLINER Gel Eye Crayon that does not (repeat, does not) smudge. Plus, it comes in so many great colors and has a secret built in sharpener!

A good night’s sleep. That’s exciting stuff and can be hard to come by! I discovered a non-down alternative, hypoallergenic pillow that I can’t live without! It keeps its shape, is actually comfortable (and can be adjusted to your liking!), helps with neck pain, and stays cool.

Hayley and I are headed to Dad’s (Elmer T’s!) for dinner this weekend, and we’ll be treating him to a recipe from one of our favorite chefs, Ina Garten. This recipe is in pretty heavy rotation around here. Are you making/baking/cooking anything fun this weekend? Oh and Ina has a brand new cookbook that will be making it’s way into our cooking libraries – Cooking For Jeffrey!

Nearing the end of my Compass Shawl which has me thinking ahead… And more often than not, especially this time of year, my go to project of choice is a hat. You know… when in doubt, knit a hat! It’s prime hat weather after all. A couple I’ve been eyeing recently are Wildflowers Cap by Mary Jane Mucklestone and Extra Slouch Hat by Jane Richmond (thinking Groovy!).

Happy weekending!

It’s Monday

I’m busted. Over the weekend I finally unpacked from Glamping – knew it was a problem when Sam found the suitcase and decided to catch a nap in the Samsonite. #don’tjudge #ihatepacking/unpacking.

And all that unpacking led to a showdown with the closet. I’ve got a plaid problem. But I’m ok with that.

Ox acting the part of the perfect angel holding down the fort on the sofa. Don’t let him fool you.

Compass Shawl in Groovy. It is indeed!

Good morning friends! The weekends, boy they sure do come and go so quickly, don’t they?!

The reserve shipping will be hopping this week! That’s all I know right this minute early this Monday morning. I’ll be back with other announcements and general chit chat a bit later. But first I just wanted to wish you all a good morning! If you were at Rhinebeck, I hope you had a blast and got all the donuts! If you were home doing your weekend thing, I hope you had a blast and, again, got all the donuts! Either way, I hope the re-entry this week is a easy one.

And a very happy Monday to one and all!

Happy Glamping At Home/Plucktovember!

Happy Glamping At Home/Plucktovember! We know you have been waiting for the virtual party celebrating all things Plucky and we are so thankful you’ve come by to join us. We are excited to spend some time knitting and conversing with you as we make our way through Field Trip and really digging our heels into fall (are we really in the last quarter of 2016?!).

While the structure of Glamping At Home/Plucktovember has a bit of a different look and feel this year, we are nonetheless ready to have a great time with all of you! This year will have a simpler approach in years past, the dates are a little different, but thank you for understanding that pulling off events back-to-back (even online!) require time and energy. And, we’re human. We need time to recharge our batteries, too!

So, without further ado, and if you haven’t hopped in the Kickoff KAL already, we hope you’ll join us! We loved Glamping and are ready to continue the festivities we started off at Islandwood with you all at home and to see us through Plucktovember!

Additional Notes:

Plucky Reserve!

Have you had an opportunity to take look at the Plucky Reserve lately? It’s getting really interesting over there! And, it promises to be a VERY lively place over the next few days!

As the yarn and all the remaining swag from Glamping arrives back in the barn (we subscribe to the ‘go big or go home’ and the ‘all that and the kitchen sink’ mentality when prepping for a show), we are inventorying and stocking it into the Reserve. We hope you will check regularly because this is going to be a constantly changing scene! Here you will find your favorite scummies, brights, tonals, greys, and SBs across so many of the Plucky bases. But, keep looking because there will also be mystery kits, project bags, Fringe Field bags, coffee mugs, pens, and on and on! About the only thing you won’t find will be a little black and white dog named Ox! He’s not leaving my side, nor I his. So glad to be home with my pups!

Please remember, items from the Reserve Shop are all ready to ship. Your Plucktober/vember project might be right there, waiting for you!

Groovy Update

Groovy, Baby!
The leaves are turning, the nights are chilly, and we are in full Plucktober celebration mode!  This year is extra special because we all have a bit more time to join in on all the fun KAL’s.  Plucktober is spilling in to Pluckvember and as part of the festivities we are introducing a brand new Plucky base!  We hope you will join us in giving Groovy, our newest Plucky base, its very own welcome party.

Anyone who came Glamping with us has already had a chance to fall head over heels for Groovy.  Now, it’s time to introduce this scrumptious aran weight, 100% cashmere base (195 yards, $62 per skein) to the rest of the world. In the skein, the yarn has a slightly crimped appearance, that when knit yields an incredibly lofty and lighter-than-air fabric that has a glimmer all its own.  Groovy is beyond perfect for your most luxurious knitting!

Miso (3 skeins) in Urban on Groovy
Need some Groovy pattern ideas?!  We can help with that!

Because Groovy is so special, this is going to be a very special update! This update will feature Groovy, and only Groovy!  Once the update goes live, you will find a drop down menu with the list of colors available.  Hayley and I are completely smitten with all of them on Groovy. Please join us on the PLUCKY BLOG tomorrow, Wednesday, October 12th at NOON EDT and then again at 8 PM EDT.
And how’s this for exciting?!? Your Groovy orders will be shipping Thursday/Friday NEXT WEEK!

We hope you find a Groovy kinda love!

Featured Pattern: Onward & Upward

With the Kickoff KAL to Glamping At Home With Plucky underway, we thought this would be a perfect time to feature one of the key patterns in this KAL. Onward & Upward!

The Onward & Upward hats can each be knit with ANY fingering weight yarn, held double. Both hats use garter stitch short rows to create a head-hugging, brimless hat. In Onward, the hat is knit flat and side-to-side, then joined with a brilliant slash of color.

But, if a lace panel marching up to the summit is more your style, then Upward is perfect. Whether you choose a subtle marled look or a sassy color combo, Onward & Upward hats offer a great way to mix those bases and colors, creating a real one-of-a-kind hat.

Onward & Upward is a quick knit that has lots of style. From picking your colors, to the unique construction, you’ll be sure to knit more than one!

Glamping At Home With Plucky 2016

Happy Plucktober First! The Plucky marketplace at Islandwood was hopping yesterday and we can’t wait to meet even more of you today! We are having an incredible time with all of you official Glampers, our Day-Glamper friends (can’t wait to meet more of you today!), and those keeping up with us from home. Plucktober is definitely on our minds and although we are away from the barn with most of our hands on deck here in WA, we are officially going to start the festivities with the first Kickoff KAL to Glamping At Home 2016!

We invite you to join us by casting on a Persephone, Persephone Throw, or the Onward & Upward hats. Have you already started a Persephone or knit the Onward & Upward hats? No worries! You are included and eligible for the KAL, too.

Glamping At Home With Plucky will run from now, October 1st through November 15th. Be sure to take a look through Field Trip and start planning your projects because we’re going to be busy! Share your plans, get inspiration and encourage your fellow Plucksters in the Official Glamping At Home thread in our Ravelry group. Click HERE to find out the details of our first KAL. There will be more news to come later next week as we wrap up the in-person Glamping event and make our way back to the Plucky barn. We promise there will be great prizes in store, including official Glamping with Plucky swag bags and Shooters! To qualify for prizes, you must post a finished project page on Ravelry and use the official hashtag “glampingathome2016”.

We are having so much fun here on the island and we are thrilled that we get to extend the fun into November with you all at home!

Wish you were here!
